The South African Institute of Auctioneers (SAIA) hosted its annual awards
ceremony, The South African National Auction Championship, on Friday, May 24th.
Clive Lazarus, of Park Village Auctions and a long-standing board member of the
SAIA, was inducted into the SAIA Hall of Fame in recognition of his trailblazing
contributions to the industry through the SAIA. Also recognised that night, receiving
the Industry Pioneer Award, was PVA’s Nico Maree.
The Hall of Fame Award recognises individuals who have achieved unparalleled
success and made enduring contributions to the auction industry. The award
honours those whose careers have been marked by extraordinary personal and
professional achievements and a significant impact on the industry and society.
Inductees are celebrated for their innovation, leadership, and the lasting legacy they
leave behind. The Hall of Fame is not just about recognising past achievements; it’s
about enshrining the values and accomplishments that set a standard for future
generations.
A long-standing member of the SAIA of over 40 years, Mr Lazarus emotively
accepted the award, thanking the SAIA and expressing his humility in receiving it. He
reflected on his relationship with the SAIA, spanning four decades to when he was a
21-year-old newcomer. He fondly remembers his time learning the rules of
auctioneering “from scratch” and witnessing the transformation and many
achievements of the institution over the years.
As he closed his acceptance speech, Mr. Lazarus said, “To the South African
Institute of Auctioneers, I salute you for the work that you’ve done, and I believe that
we’re going from strength to strength.”
